Forza Horizon 4 - The fastest way to get skill points / perks

Posted by Daimos on 2 October, 2021

The easiest and fastest method for increasing your skill points is to perform drifts together with jumps, and other challenges. At the end of this article you can see a movie where I show you a few possibilities to earn them fast.

1 Best car to get skill points / perks

Some cars have additional bonuses, my recommendation is the BMW M6 '13 FE with drift bonus and x7 multiplier. It's easy to drive and you can make points really fast. You can buy this car on auction for a good price. It is important to unlock all perks as soon as possible to get additional bonuses, especially the x7 multiplier. To be safe, unlock the most expensive perk (25 points), so you can crash your car once, before points are removed.

If you want you can also check other cars, here you have a list of the best ones for additional bonuses:

Car Bonus Drift Destroy Jump Skill combinations Open world bonus Multiplier Additional
BMW M6 '13 FE Drift bonus +20% +20% +20% +30% +50% x7 Multiplier grows 3x faster
Renault 5 Turbo FE All skills bonus +20% +20% +20% +30% +50% x7 Additional 30% for skill chains
Hoonigan Ford "Hoonicorn" Mustang - +20% +20% +20% +30% +50% x7 Multiplier grows 3x faster
Jaguar E-Type S1 - +20% +20% +30% +30% +50% x7 Multiplier grows 3x faster

The most important is the x7 multiplier. By default all cars have x5 bonus, so this is a significant upgrade. As you can see in the table above, all cars have x7 multiplier. Together with the perk that makes the multiplier grow 3 times faster is the best way to get Skill Points fast.

2 Greendale Airstrip drifting

Forza Horizon 4 - Airport

The BMW M6 '13 FE and the Hoonigan Ford "Hoonicorn" Mustang will be perfect at the airport. By drifting back and forth along the runway you can earn points extremely fast. If you've already mastered drifting enough to make a slalom on the runway, then one trip is enough to earn 10 skill points. You can see that in the video at the end of the article.

It is one of the best places to earn points because there are no civilian cars. The runway is wide enough that you can easily avoid side obstacles. At the end of the runway you can continue through the fields, which also has barriers to destroy. You have to watch out for the white and red barriers that are placed at the beginning of the runway - there is a bug and sometimes the skill chain can be broken after colliding with them.

3 Jumping on the beach next to Bamburgh castle

Forza Horizon 4 - Beach

If you can't drift yet, or you just don't like to? No problem, choose a tuning with raised suspension for your car (look for a tuning with Dirt or Cross keywords), and go to the beach next to the castle. You can easily score points there only by jumping and destroying the surrounding railings, but be careful, because a bad jump can end in a rollover which will break the skill chain.

4 Cleaning up the flower field in Lego DLC

Forza Horizon 4 - Lego Flowers

If you have a Lego add-on and you are looking for variety, the flower fields allow you to score points quickly. Each flower counts as destroying the environment and the fields are huge so you can drift freely while demolishing the mass of blocks. Like on the beach, there are no special drift skills needed here, although it is better to knock off the flowers sideways. There are no jumps here, but raised suspension will make things easier.

5 House with a skill song bonus

Buy The Huntsman's Lodge if you can afford it (750,000 CR), which will earn you even more points. Unfortunately, the bonus only works when there is a "Hit" song playing on the radio. While it's playing there will be an active bonus to the Skill Points scored.

The Huntsman's Lodge is located in the Lakehurst Forest, on the east side of the Derwent water.

6 General tips for any location

Once you choose the right car and your favorite place, remember a few important things:

  1. Don't avoid destroyable obstacles or jumping spots when drifting. Mixing skills gives you chain bonuses.
  2. Regardless of which car you choose, always try to unlock the most expensive perk that allows you one accident without losing points.
  3. You get one perk for every 50 000 points, and you can get a maximum of 10 perks at once - so don't score more than 500 000 points or you are wasting your time. Stop and wait for the point summary and start over. If you earn 2 million points in one go, you will get 10 perks anyway because that's the limit for one run. If, on the other hand, you take a short break after 500k, you will score a total of 40 perks in 4 rounds.

7 Test of different locations

I prepared a test of all locations using the BMW M6 Coupe Forza Edition 2013 and Renault 5 Turbo Forza Edition 1980. I measured the times needed to obtain the maximum number of 10 skill points at the Greendale Airstrip, on the beach next to Bamburgh Castle and in two locations from the Lego DLC:

The referenced media source is missing and needs to be re-embedded.

The results are as follows:

  • Greendale Airstrip and BMW M6 FE - 534,107 points in 01:13
  • The beach next to Bamburgh castle, Renault 5 - 618,296 points in 01:29
  • Flower fields from Lego DLC, Renault 5 - ~560,889 points in 1:40
  • Skatepark from Lego DLC, Renault 5 - 575,239 points in 2:22
  • Flower fields from Lego DLC, BMW M6 FE - 633,465 points in 1:33

Exactly 500k is hard to get, and better a little more than not enough.

Here is the list with locations converted to points per second:

  1. Greendale Airstrip and BMW M6 FE - 7317 points per second.
  2. The beach next to Bamburgh, Renault 5 - 6947 points per second.
  3. Flower fields from Lego DLC, BMW M6 FE - 6811 points per second.
  4. Flower fields from Lego DLC, Renault 5 - 5609 points per second.
  5. Skatepark from Lego DLC, Renault 5 - 4051 points per second.

The test is not perfect because I would have to do x# of runs for each location, but these are the approximate results. I did all the tests on the first try, without any preparation, so they more or less reflect the capabilities of the car and the location.

Even though the BMW M6 FE with the drifting tuning performed better than the Renault 5, it's worth trying to make a second BMW with a raised suspension and then it will be even more efficient.

Okay, but why do I need these perks and skill points?

With Skill Points, you can earn cash and experience much faster. You can also unlock Wheelspins, cash and free cars. Check the list of cars which are the best for this:
