Stranded Deep - Infinite resources / map editor

Posted by Daimos on 8 July, 2022

In Stranded Deep, most resources are unfortunately not renewable. After a few days, you may have a problem with obtaining coconuts, sticks, stone and much more. There is, however, a way to provide yourself with unlimited resources, but it comes close to cheating, and I strongly advise against it for novice players as it can spoil the enjoyment of the game. However, if you focus on free building and you are not interested in continuous exploration, this guide is for you.
The following materials were prepared based on the Xbox version. The editor in the PC version is more extensive, but the principle of island replacement is the same. Stranded Deep for PC allows for more flexible configuration and placement of elements.

Islands can be reset

The world in the game is randomly generated. However, the number of islands is fixed and for the console is 22 (25 areas, 3 of which are special areas), the PC has a different version of the game and there are more islands. The generated world is assigned to your account and you can freely modify it. Just use the Cartography editor:

When you go to the world map, you will see a layout based on your last save. You can modify any part of the map, except the zones marked in red. This is how 3 story areas and your last saved location are marked.
You can also replace your starting island if you select your last saved game elsewhere.

The starting location is always in the center. As you can see in the screenshot above, for me it is not marked in red because I saved the game while on a neighboring island.

How to create your island with any resources?

The first step in managing the map is to create a new island. You only need to do it once, and then use it indefinitely, a useful method to restart all resources.
On the Cartographer screen, select the New Island option. The generating island panel will be displayed, which allows you to edit the parameters responsible for generating terrain, items, trees, stones, animals and wrecks.
In the first tab you can configure the size and shape of the island. This choice is crucial because it determines how much space you will have to arrange all the elements. The larger and flat the island, the more objects will fit on it. Therefore, it is worth targeting the largest size at the beginning.

Next tabs allow you to select the number of elements present and the editor will notify you if you exceed the limit imposed by the shape and size of the terrain.
After each modification, you can preview the generated island in the right part of the screen. I don't know about the other elements, but when it comes to wrecks, I have the impression that the editor allows you to place more ships than will actually appear in the game.
An additional option when changing parameters is the Lock, visible next to the arrows:

The lock protects the indicated value so that the editor does not reduce this position after exceeding the maximum number of elements.
After entering all the settings, select Apply and return to the world map view.

Placing an island in the current world

After creating a new island and selecting the unlocked sector (not the red one), a legend with possible actions appears at the bottom of the screen. In the center of the screen, you can choose from all previously created islands. Select one of them and use the action (A) (Use Island). The sector will be modified and after loading the last save, you can explore your newly generated game world.

Infinite Resources

After creating a new island, all resources will eventually run out. If you create a resource-rich place, all you need to do is place the island close to where you live. After collecting all the useful things, all you have to do is go back to the editor and reset the location. You will use an island that you saved earlier, so the whole process takes much shorter.

Summary - To The Point

  • To edit the current world, go to the map editor from Cartographer in the main menu.
  • Start by creating a new island using the New Island option. Set the size, shape and resources available, then go back to the map.
  • You can mark the newly created islands on the current world by selecting any sector that has not been marked in red and using the options in the lower right corner of the screen.
  • The red color on the map is a blockade for 3 story sectors and your position in the last save of the game.
  • If you want to modify your current island, you can temporarily move to an adjacent island and save your game there. Remember that you will lose any items you leave there.
  • On the PC version, you can download user-created maps in Steam Workshop.
